This collection is a display of my aesthetic, desire for accuracy and applying Couture and tailoring techniques into my designs.
The inspiration behind the portfolio collection was drawn from an internal reflection of two worlds coming together.
The dark, dominating world of erotica equally aligning with the desire for elegance and sophistication. With compliments to the human form and very subtle, complimenting hints to the Georgian era.
Associating Modernism and Brutalism Architecture into the designs which can be depicted in the structure of each piece, the reoccurring angular cuts used throughout and the repetition which is used through the paneling. Then taking all of this and marrying it with soft, delicate fabrics and contrasting with strong silhouettes, metal zippers and dark fabrics.
I worked predominantly with fabrics that felt desirable - strong, but lush and also used fabric that I had not used before to better understand and learn about their characteristics.
Velvet Formal Gown with Lingerie Component
Made from luxurious soft stretch velvet in the deepest of blacks. Lined with a contrasting champagne satin to emphasise the silhouette of the design over the body and to compliment what is worn underneath. This design is daring and exposing, but versatile. It can compliment any persons style and can be made uniquely to the wearers aesthetic.
Inspiration for this design is drawn from the Georgian era which has been applied to the corseted bodice and a paneled skirt that falls into a tapered train. The strapless bra and high cut g-string are made from a high quality power mesh. Designed to peak through and express a risky element to what is an elegant design.
The bias gown is a modern design with plunging neck line, voluminous sleeves and made from a georgette fabric which only drapes and falls effortlessly over the form but is also sheer and introduces the aesthetic for this collection.
Working with bias allowed me the ability to understand new characteristics of certain fabrics and how this contributes to design, sewing techniques and draping.
Made from a luxurious wool blend fabric with a decedent subtle sheen for this plunging neckline jacket.
Manipulation of the pattern was used for the lapel as it sits widely across the chest. A unique darted sleeve detail to create the boxed look sleeve cap. Fitted through to waistline from where the broken and staggered peplum carries on the angular cohesion of the collection.
The back has a long, rectangular slim key hole opening which allows a peak at what the wearers chosen to team with this jacket. Whether it be a bold colour, pattern or embellishment. A pleasant surprise with a hint of risque.
The tailored jacket is constructed using high end tailoring techniques that are seen on Savile Row. This jacket is tailored and moulded to the form and use of pad stitching, layering of internal materials encourage it to take the designed silhouette.
